Tenerife — my island, my office, and my underwater playground.Whether you're diving for the first time or you’ve already lost count of your dives, this island offers something that never stops surprising: crystal-clear waters, volcanic reefs, and marine life that moves with grace and mystery.
As a marine biologist and private instructor, I’m not just here to guide you underwater — I’m here to help you feel confident, calm, and connected in every moment. Here’s how you can prepare to dive safely and skillfully in these waters, and truly enjoy the experience.
🌊 Understanding Tenerife’s Underwater Environment
Before we slip into the sea, it helps to know what kind of world you’re stepping into.
Water Temperature: Ranges from 18°C in winter to 24°C in summer. I recommend a wetsuit all year round — comfort matters.
Visibility: Often up to 30 meters. That clarity lets us truly enjoy every detail — rays gliding, fish schools swirling, even an octopus hiding in plain sight.
Marine Life: Tenerife is rich in biodiversity. You might meet turtles, trumpetfish, angel sharks, or rays. Each dive brings its own cast of characters.
Understanding the environment helps us dive with awareness and respect — something I care deeply about.
✅ Choosing Your Instructor or Dive School
There are many diving options on the island, but not all are created equal. My advice?
Choose Certified: Look for instructors affiliated with PADI (like me 😉). It means international safety standards and structured training.
Experience Counts: A good guide knows both the sea and people. Ask how long they’ve been diving Tenerife’s sites.
Read Reviews: Nothing beats real feedback. Look for comments about safety, kindness, and vibes.
Gear Quality: Well-maintained equipment makes your dive smoother and safer.
Ocean Soul Diving is just me — one instructor, one vision — and everything is tailored to you. If that’s your style, we’ll get along well.
🎯 Essential Skills to Master
Even the most beautiful dive can turn stressful without the right preparation. A few key skills go a long way:
Equalization: Learn to balance the pressure in your ears gently as you descend.
Buoyancy Control: It’s the art of underwater grace — and helps protect marine life beneath you.
Hand Signals: Silent language that keeps us connected below the surface.
Emergency Awareness: You probably won’t need it — but knowing what to do builds real confidence.
Before any dive, we’ll review all this. No rush, no pressure. Just a calm, clear plan.
📌 Planning Your Dive Day
Each dive with me is carefully planned, but also flexible to your comfort and energy. Key things we’ll always cover:
Site Briefing: We’ll talk about depth, terrain, and any special features.
Buddy System: We dive together. I’m always by your side.
Equipment Check: I’ll help you get fitted and comfortable.
Timing: We take it slow, enjoy the process, and make sure everything feels right.
Your dive starts the moment we meet — not just when we enter the water.
🛟 My Dive Safety Philosophy
Your well-being is always the priority. Always. A few tips I always share:
Know Your Limits: Every diver has a different rhythm. No pressure to go deeper or stay longer than you feel ready for.
Breathe, Don’t Rush: Mindful breathing helps everything — from buoyancy to peace of mind.
Ascent Control: We ascend slowly, with care and calm.
Hydrate & Rest: Diving is joyful — and a little tiring. Drink water, eat well, and enjoy a bit of sun after.
These habits make diving safe, and way more enjoyable.
🐢 Where to Dive in Tenerife
Some of my favorite dive sites to take people:
El Puertito: Gentle, beginner-friendly, and often visited by friendly turtles.
Los Chuchos: Curious stingrays glide through the sand here — a surreal sight.
El Condesito Wreck: A shipwreck with history and marine life, perfect for more advanced divers.
Montaña Amarilla: Volcanic formations, color, and life — a dream for underwater photographers.
Each site has its own vibe. I’ll help you choose the one that fits your goals and level.
💧 After the Dive
We surface, smile, and talk about everything we saw — that’s half the fun.
Don’t forget to:
Rinse Your Gear: I’ll guide you, and everything is taken care of.
Rehydrate & Rest: Enjoy some local food or just relax.
Share Stories: The ocean has a way of bringing people together.
🌍 Diving with Respect
Tenerife’s underwater life is incredible — and fragile. As both an instructor and biologist, I always teach:
Look, Don’t Touch
Control Your Buoyancy
Leave Only Bubbles
Sometimes we’ll talk about conservation projects or even do a little cleanup dive if you’re interested. Every little action matters.
Final Thoughts
Diving is more than just sport — it’s presence, connection, and sometimes even transformation. And Tenerife? It’s one of the best places in the world to experience that.
If you’re ready to explore the ocean with someone who lives and breathes it, I’d love to be your guide.
Let’s dive — skillfully, safely, and soulfully.
With bubbles and joy,RobertaMarine Biologist & PADI Instructor – Ocean Soul Diving
